MY WORK
Beacon: Searching for Truth
After being fed up with the onslaught of misinformation that exists in our world today, I decided to build something that could help. Beacon is a Chrome plug-in that uses AI to understand hidden biases and bring them to your attention on the sites you get your news from.
DESIGN PROCESS
Let's take a look at how we got here.
Factual, unbiased information has become so difficult to find in today's media landscape that it is not even worth it to try.
The Opportunity
The Solution
Providing users with real-time context on the biased words, phrases, and sources present in an article so that they are more informed about the content, and can make more rational and informed decisions about the content they consume.
The Result
A simple AI-powered Chrome extension that highlights biased statements present in articles on the top news sites, creating informed users that have the tools needed to confidently think critically about a source of information.
My Contribution
After discovering the problem, I performed five empathy interviews to deeply understand the problem and current workarounds. Then, I used low-fidelity wireframes to prototype and test a solution with these same users. And finally, I created high-fidelity frames in Figma, modeled on the AP News website, self-created brand guidelines, and user insights.

Initial journey map for Beacon.

Initial Preference Settings wireframes for user testing.

Initial Bias Analysis Report wireframes for user testing.
